about

Rowan Jones is a clarinettist and curator whose work explores the spaces where sound meets art.

Rowan performs regularly across the UK and Europe in orchestral and chamber settings, alongside projects which explore new music, interdisciplinary work and collaboration. They have worked with ensembles including the English National Opera, The Orchestra of Opera North, Wild Arts, Orpheus Sinfonia, Brixton Chamber Orchestra and the Britten Pears Contemporary Ensemble. A keen advocate for contemporary music, she is a Britten Pears Young Artist 2024/25, premiering new works at the Aldeburgh Festival, and was awarded the clarinet place on the London Sinfonietta Academy 2023/24.

Rowan’s practice extends into experimental and cross-disciplinary projects, including performances with dancers at the Totally Thames Festival, Tangram Collective, collaborations with the Explore Ensemble at the Royal College of Music, the Brazilian Embassy in London and recording at Abbey Road Studios. She has contributed to projects such as the Marés Project (investigating timbre and cultural identity), the Royal Parks’ Music for Trees digital commission (combining music, ecology and public engagement) and NMC’s release of Chelsea Becker’s Intermission (a conceptual wind ensemble performance exploring silence and interruption during the pandemic as a part of the Big Lockdown Survey).

In 2026, Rowan will co-curate PLAYFORM, a multidisciplinary exhibition at No. 1 Poultry selected by Hypha Studios in partnership with recessed.space, responding to postmodern architecture through performance. She has also studied curatorial approaches directly, completing the short course How To Be An Independent Curator at Central Saint Martins (University of the Arts London) in 2025.

A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music, Rowan is committed to shaping imaginative and forward-looking performance. Alongside their creative work, Rowan is the clarinet tutor at HMDT, has assisted in outreach projects with the London Sinfonietta, Wild Arts, RCM ‘Sparks’ Programme and Music House for Children and recently completed the Community Workshop Leadership course with Britten Pears Arts, bringing contemporary and collaborative music-making to a wide range of communities and age groups.
